Birthstones tend to be a very personal choice, even to the point that people who don't like the color of their true birthstone will find any excuse to claim another. For example, the true November birthstone is citrine or golden topaz, yet many people choose blue topaz even though that lovely blue color is the result of treatment of a golden or colorless natural topaz crystal.
You may notice that the colors of the modern and traditional birthstones tend to be the same, implying that (historically speaking) the traditional color is the important consideration and blue topaz would not be an acceptable birthstone choice for November, only golden topaz. Indeed, blue topaz is sometimes considered to be an alternate birthstone for December - it is the right color. Remember, however, that the wishes of the gift recipient override all other considerations regarding the correctness of a birthstone gift.

Note that blue sapphire is the traditional color for September. But sapphires come in every color of the rainbow (except hues of red which are given the name ruby), as do tourmalines and even diamonds. Garnet, usually thought of as a red birthstone, actually is available in a variety of colors including orange, green, and even the lovely deep purple color of grapes.
Tanzanite became an official December birthstone on October 30, 2002, in the first revision since 1912 to the birthstone list maintained by the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA).

Sorry, I copied and pasted the last part.
I;m tired and I don;t have the energy to put into my own, simpler words.
Sorry.
Here is a link to what I used:

Ho Hum I Ate the Bottle of Rum

Hey, guess what?
MORE pictures from today by my Birthday Camera!
Cuba, my other aunt's dog.
He lives right next to the other aunt's house!

He really likes Nuka(Nooka?).
She hates him.
It's a love-hate relationship.
Except mostly one-sided.
Poor Cuba!

A grape leaf.

Me taking pictures of me!

I LOVE YOU!!!!

Ho Hum Bottle of Rum is Gone

And....more pictures from my Birthday Camera!
Really colorful.

Sprouts!
Don't you just love the word?
Sprouts!

Nooka(or Nuka?)
I'm not sure, but she's a funny dog.
She hates cameras!

Grapevine.
I love how it curls!

That's not bird poop....

I love the green and the blue!

Seems blurry?
Look again!
(To the right!)

Ho Hum Bottles Half Done

More pictures from my Birthday Camera.
That's a lot of seeds!

I couldn't get near them, so I used the zoom.
It's not the best, but it's still pretty!

Half blurry, half not!
How cool is that?

I like how the building is in the backround, with the cherry tree.
It combines nature and mankind in one!

What is this?

Unfortunately, this was the only somewhat ripe raspberry.
If there were more ripe ones there wouldn't be a picture!

Maybe there weren't any raspberries, but there sure were a lot of cherries!

Isn't it obvious why I like this?

I don't know what flower it is, but I like how it fills the screen.

Ho Hum And A Bottle of Rum

Pictures I took with my Birthday Camera.

This is a really nice picture of a honey-bee.
It's a teeny bit moved, BUT he would start flying right after the camera got focused!

Outside my Grandma's apartment was this flower.
Mmmmm, yes.
(A Terrible Yoda Immitation!)

A pink rose.
Is not unlike my nose....

I super-duper like the lighting here!

If you can, find a way to close up;
You can see all the fuzzy little hairs on it.
It's funny.

I like how it looks so tall.
And yet it was relatively small.

This reminds me of Nevada for a reason only I know :)

It's a bit blurred, but very pretty.

Is it just me, or does this make you hungry?
